Get updates from your favourite websites via RSS

What on earth is RSS?RSS is actually not found on earth. It is a clever tool that is used on the internet and allows you to select and receive information from all sorts of websites.
When you ‘surf the net’, you most likely tend to visit a handful of your favourite sites on a regular basis in search of new content on that website. Quite frankly, going to each site and finding the section you are interested in could become quite time-consuming in the long run.
A much simpler option would be if this specific info you seek could come to you, right? Enter: RSS feeds. RSS stands for Real Simple Syndication. It sounds scary but actually it is really friendly and will make your life a whole lot easier. Essentially, what RSS does is that it sends content in its most basic format to anyone who requests it. The beauty of RSS is that it is compatible with a multitude of devices such as your cell phone.
Most likely you have already come into contact with RSS but just don’t know it. For example, when you post comments on a blog or discussion site and then choose to ‘follow discussion’, you get notified when a new comment has been added to the discussion thread. Even on Facebook, any new messages and updates are mailed to you as a notification. This is all thanks to RSS.
With
ice cream you can manage the RSS feeds available from your website by using the RSS TAP Application.
So what do you need to do to start using RSS?This can be done in two simple steps:
STEP 1: Get yourself an RSS Reader. This is a type of web software that you can get for free! Here you can see the websites you are receiving content from and browse through the latest stuff that has been added to these sites. All of this can be done without actually visiting the site, although you will have the option to see the original article as is on the site. See below for a list of popular RSS Readers.
STEP 2: Connect your reader to your favourite websites. This means you “subscribe” to updates from sites which will then appear in your reader. Note: this does not mean you will get spammed with unwanted emails. You do not have to give away any personal information in order to subscribe and you can remove your RSS feeds whenever you want to.
You will see that most browsers will show you an RSS icon of some shape or form. Check the site itself to find the ‘RSS’ button. Click on it and follow the instructions.
